This home page is started from the desire to carry out and communicate research on traditional European wind mill diversity and typification. The several types and subtypes of European wind mills can be distinguished quite clearly and there is a relationship between (sub-)types and both historical development and regional distribution. Already much is known. Nevertheless, several aspects can be studied in more detail.

One of the initial results of the study of windmill evolution and diversity is the development of a datamodel for identification of European windmill types. This datamodel runs in the framework of the program Determinator, and it is also developed to demonstrate the applicability of computer programs called Expert systems.
